Animal Nutrition Association: An Overview

History :

The Animal Nutrition Association (ANA) made its modest beginning in the year 1993 at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar, as Animal Nutrition Club with the objective of maintaining a liaison among the alumni, scientists and other professionals associated with Division of Animal Nutrition, IVRI. Based on the encouraging response and proposition received from the members across the country, it was decided to make the Animal Nutrition Club more broad-based, and accordingly it was renamed as Animal Nutrition Association, got registered with the Registrar of Societies in 1994, and made it open to all the persons involved in the field of animal nutrition and allied sciences. Since then, ANA has grown in leaps and bounds and build up as a professional forum at the national level. The ANA has now become one of the member organizations of World Association of Animal Production (WAAP), Rome. It now boasts of having more than 800 life members across India and beyond.

The ANA has so far successfully organized eight biennial conferences and a World Conference besides two national workshops to provide opportunities to exchange knowledge and to propagate the latest advances in animal nutrition and feeding strategies with various cross scientific disciplines.

Official Publication :

In the formative years, the erstwhile Animal Nutrition Club used to publish a news letter “ANA Newsletter” meant chiefly to highlight and share the significant academic, scientific as well as personal achievements of the members. However, subsequently it was felt that it needs to cover scientific contribution as well. Backed by the enthusiasm and encouragement received from the members, ANA decided to bring out its official scientific journal in place of Newsletter. The first issue of the Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology journal was published in January 2001 and formally is being published regularly adhering to as strict schedule, and being acclaimed widely for its scientific content and impact. The journal launched its official website www.anft.org during the Vth Biennial ANA Conference at Bangalore in order to make it more accessible to the readers and attracting an international clientele. The journal is also being e-published since March 2006, and is available on line at www.indianjournals.com with all its back issues. The journal received its first SCI impact factor (IF 2009-0.353) and is now indexed in CAB Abstracts, SCI and SCOPUS (Elsevier).
